HYPSOS

HYPSOS is an archive of the world seen from above.

It began with a simple curiosity: what does a familiar place look like when you lift it a few hundred feet into the air? The water turns to glass and light. Coastlines become brushstrokes. The ordinary, from height, becomes strange and beautiful again.

ὕψος·height, and in the old texts, the sublime

That is the word the project is named for. Every Aloft in the archive carries a Greek name of its own, for a wind, a star, an hour of light, chosen to match the feeling of that particular day in the air.

The archive is meant to be shared. The photographs are free to look at and free to keep. If a place moves you the way it moved me from above, it has done its job.
